HAIR // Brunette[break]
EYES // Amber/Silver[break]
SKIN // Caucasian[break][break]
ATTIRE[break][break]
Melody doesn't like to dress up, probably as a direct result of her protective, or as she would term it, overprotective father. She'll dress as casually as possible unless explicitly instructed, and even then it would be under protest. You can often find her lounging around in yoga pants, mini-skirts, and all the other kinds of outfits that often scream 'I have daddy issues'.
[break][break]
GENERAL[break][break]
Melody is tall for her age at 5 foot 5 inches and has that gangly, slightly awkward look of a girl who hasn't quite grown into her body yet. She could be called skinny, and that is reflected in her face, with slightly angular, almost pointed features. Her fingers are long and dexterous, pianist's fingers, which is appropriate, thanks to her father. Interestingly, and relatively rarely for a metahuman, Melody's appearance changes when using her powers, appearing either amber or silver. This aspect of her abilities can also shift depending on her mood or emotional state.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Melody has dived headfirst into her rebellious teenage phase, and has shown no signs of surfacing. She is extremely resentful of her father, and bringing him up is likely to leave the guilty party regretting their decision. Simply mentioning that he might disapprove of something is usually enough to push her over the edge and into a decision that she might regret later. Not least amongst her crimes rank sneaking out late at night, underage drinking and smoking weed on school premises.
[break][break]
Disrespectful and lazy, Melody is every teacher's worst nightmare. Too lazy and cocky to ever do any work, and smart enough to tie most of them up in knots when they try to challenge her. That cockiness, and a confidence in both her own abilities and her intelligence often digs her deeper when really she should have stopped talking.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]HISTORY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]
Melody never really knew her mother. She was less than two years old when a drunk driver hit the car her parents were driving in, killing Katherine Newton and leaving her father with a permanent limp. Many of her later issues can be traced back to that fateful night. As she grew up it became rapidly more obvious that she was her father's daughter, displaying intelligence and ability far beyond her years.
[break][break]
Her father was of course delighted and cultivated this quality in her. This only became another part of his parenting that she came to resent, feeling that she could never quite live up to his expectations, and pushing in the opposite direction as a result. This wasn't helped when she was diagnosed with ADHD, and she struggled with this well into her middle school years. It was about the time that they started to take control of this challenge with medication and self-discipline that she started to complain of pain and increased sensitivity across her body.
[break][break]
Perhaps it was fortunate that she had a gifted and influential Doctor for a father. She was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia within a matter of months, but dealing with the ramifications of that would last for a lot longer. She was already on medication for her ADHD, now she had to add a whole host of other pills. It added yet more restrictions to her life, and she slowly began to rebel against her protective father.
[break][break]
In truth Melody could likely have equalled or even exceeded her father in achievements by her age, but has been held back by what turned out to be severe ADHD, and, more recently, a refusal to meet her father's expectations. With a loss of confidence that she can live up to his wishes for her, she has found it easier to not even attempt them at all. Now she even goes so far as to directly oppose his wishes, including sneaking out after curfew to hang with her friends, and even getting high on school grounds.
[break][break]
She is currently in high school thanks to her latest method of defying her father, which is to intentionally fail her exams. In truth she could have graduated already, but her unwillingness to follow in her father's footsteps is yet another sore spot for both of them. Instead she truants classes and gets involved with a crowd that she would probably be better off without.

[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]POWER
[attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]
ABILITY[break][break]
Melody's abilities are, rather unusually, reflected physically. Her eyes have the ability to reflect and focus light in very specific ways. If you are familiar enough with her then you can see which ability she is about to use simply by looking at her eyes. They change according to the ability she is using. These abilities are threefold, but nonetheless inseparably linked to each other.
[break][break]
When her irises are amber they glow very faintly, and she can channel and project that power into ranged blasts. When focused the heat these beams can produce is immense, capable of melting through steel when focused. She can vary the strength and focus of these beams and can use them with the kind of precision that would allow her to light a cigarette ten feet away without damaging the person holding it.
[break][break]
The secondary aspect of her abilities could not be more different. Her eyes shift in hue from a golden amber glow to a faint silver, those who look closely can even see a faint crescent shape which appears to respond to the phases of the moon. Her abilities in this form are wildly different, instead of projecting beams from her eyes, she can conjure defensive force fields capable of stopping a mid-size family sedan before giving way. Though these force fields are not generated from her eyes, at least not directly, she does need to be able to see them to maintain them. These shields can apparently take any form, but are easier to produce in slightly curved planes or complete spheres. They seem to act almost entirely effectively as a defence, no physical objects can pass through the field, and while oxygen can, some unknown process appears to filter out harmful gases.
[break][break]
Melody's tertiary and final ability is a combination of the previous two. Her eyes shift and change until one is amber and the second is silver. In this form her abilities are considerably different, though clearly related. Instead of manifesting independent force fields she can manifest what appears to be a faintly shield of light that is partially translucent, she can change the size and shape of this shield with relative ease, but it must remain attached to her to do this. Secondly, she can generate a golden glowing weapon, this typically takes the form of a simple sword, but she has demonstrated the ability to manifest axes, mauls and spears with similar effects.
[break][break]
LIMITS[break][break]
Melody's eye beams can cut through steel up to three inches thick with relative ease, and materials thicker if given enough time. They can be partially deflected by mirrored surfaces, but as mirrors do not truly reflect 100% of all light, she can eventually penetrate them as well.
[break][break]
Her force fields can stop a mid-size sedan dead at high speed, but would likely dissipate from the force of the impact afterwards. She can maintain up to four of these force fields, but needs to be able to see them in order to maintain them. She can move them once she has created them, but not at a greater speed than a fast walking pace.
[break][break]
When armed with shield and sword the capabilities of both her abilities are drastically changed. Her shield can still absorb significant damage, but large impacts can still cause damage to the arm that holds it. She also has to effectively hold it, someone with enough strength or leverage could knock it from her hands which would result in it disappearing almost immediately.
[break][break]
Her weapon is composed of solid light, and the edges of the blade appear to be far sharper than any blade has any right to be. With a combination of this mono-molecular sharpness and the extreme heat it emits on contact with a material she can cut through modern body armour with ease. It can maintain its form for a short time if she lets go, but not long.
[break][break]
She can switch between each ability relatively quickly, but it requires her to close her eyes and focus for up to thirty seconds. It can be relatively easy to distract this focus, from something as simple as a sudden loud noise, to sudden pain. They can also shift without warning depending on her emotional state, though this is rarely when she is actively engaged in using her ability.
[break][break]
WEAKNESSES[break][break]
In order for both her secondary and tertiary abilities to function she needs to be able to see them. Once they have left her field of view they will start to weaken immediately, and if she cannot see them at all they will disappear in a matter of seconds. This does not prevent her from blinking, but these constructs will weaken for the fraction of a second that she cannot see them.
[break][break]
This extends to her primary ability, as Melody uses her eyes to reflect and focus light, if there is no light present she is completely powerless, however, she is able to use her abilities at near full strength even in low light environments.
